Overview
BSG is experienced, flexible and has a successful track record
of technology roll outs and infrastructure refreshes, both
simple and complex. BSG's infrastructure refresh service
has been used by many different organisations in different
ways; from single sites in London and throughout the UK,
to 300+ multi-site enterprises, through Europe and to the
Middle and Far East. BSG has implemented a wide variety of
technology refreshes from simple staged product deliveries
through to entirely outsourced managed solutions, which give
you choice
as to how your infrastructure is operated
The breadth of BSG's expertise means it can offer a fully project managed end to end solution, that is developed and delivered with your specific requirements in mind. As a result of BSG's flexible approach it can tailor the most appropriate solution to individual needs. This approach allows you to retain control of any aspects of the implementation you wish, whilst delivering the rest in an organised, professional and agreed way, so that your project is delivered on time and within budget.
Vendor Independence
BSG is vendor independent, and accredited with a number
of market leading vendors and can therefore offer advice and
solutions that best suit the needs of the client's business.
Furthermore, BSG are able to offer multi-vendor solutions,
enabling you to benefit from the best aspects of a number
of tier one vendors.
You may want to make comparisons
between different vendors' offerings, and attempt to benchmark
them against each other. BSG are able to assist in the designing,
benchmarking and testing of different solutions. This is in
addition to being able to arrange loan and demonstration kit.
Furthermore, BSG can leverage its experience of providing these
solutions by giving you access to other customers who are
already using the technologies under consideration. BSG are
able to act as a conduit between you and the manufacturer by facilitating
visits to, or by, the vendor.
Warranty and support
BSG's help desk and extensive support service offerings
ensure that it is well placed to provide appropriate support
for the newly implemented infrastructure. The help desk provides
1st and 2nd line support, with 3rd line escalation direct
to vendors. In addition to this BSG has a direct support relationship
with a number of tier 1 vendors (HP, Sun, IBM etc).
Minimising TCO
There is more to the cost of any piece of technology than
just what it costs to buy. The costs of support, maintenance,
downtime and lost productivity due to performance issues can
easily exceed the cost of purchase of the unit. BSG's
experience in designing, deploying and operating solutions
ensures a low TCO. As an operator of solutions BSG realise
that optimum efficiency begins with the correct design, one
that minimises administration and support from the outset.
It is this experience of the issues that are relevant to the
client both in the short term: designing and deploying; and
in the longer term: operating, that gives BSG its ability
to take a holistic view of a client implementation, such that
we can support the whole proposition, rather than just selected
aspects of it.
Financing options: BSG have a number of leasing partners. There are numerous benefits to leasing over direct purchase. Clearly one is that it allows the business to spread the cost of acquisition over the life cycle of the equipment. It also gives options of how to account for the expenditure.
Minimising Business Disruption
The disruption to your business needs to be kept to a minimum,
and if there is to be any disruption then it needs to be planned
for and controlled. BSG is able to minimise this through the
use of project managers to ensure that all foreseeable risks
have been assessed and planned for.
Implementation Plan
BSG have extensive experience of implementing various types of roll outs. As an ISO 9001 accredited organisation our project management team work to the highest standards and if required can ensure your project happens within budget and to pre-set timescales. However, BSG can offer a modular approach, which allows you to control certain aspects, whilst out-tasking the rest to BSG. There are numerous phases to the implementation, and different aspects need to be considered. Briefly they are:
- Product selection - see above
- Product purchase - BSG can assist in negotiating
competitive special pricing with vendors. The best discount
will usually depend on making a single bulk purchase. BSG
has 14000 Sq ft warehouse in central London and because
of this it can store all the goods required for the refresh,
whilst staging their production and delivery in line with
the ability to deploy at the end use site.
- Hardware configuration and imaging - BSG is able
to design and build an image after establishing the client
requirements. Once designed and agreed the image will be
put on BSG's dedicated configuration servers, and
can then be downloaded onto all client PCs. At the same
time BSG's accredited engineers can carry out any
hardware configuration that may be required. This ensures
that when delivered all machines will be ready to deploy,
straight out of the box.
- Asset tagging and asset registering. As part of the configuration
process BSG is also able to asset tag equipment, and record
this information that can then be submitted as a report
to the client. This report can be tailored to client requirements
but would typically include Asset number, product type,
serial number, specification, configuration and possibly
shipment date, deployment location , invoice number etc.
- Once configured, BSG's warehouse facilities allow
the pre-configured goods to be stored until the appropriate
delivery time. BSG operate its own fleet of vans, but also
utilise same day and overnight courier partners, and can
therefore offer a comprehensive variety of timed delivery
options.
- Once delivered to the agreed project plan, you may wish
to deploy the kit yourself or you may wish to use BSG's
engineers to do it.
- In order to deploy the equipment at the desktop, it is
quite likely that existing, redundant equipment will need
to be removed. BSG is able to do this, arrange transport
from the premises, wipe all data, take an inventory of equipment
and dispose of it in a suitable way.
- One key consideration is how much the deployment of new
kit will impact your business. BSG is able to deploy out
of hours, and at weekends, to keep disruption to a minimum.
Furthermore if the deployment is planned and overseen by
a BSG project manager schedules can be co-ordinated to minimise
impact. For instance, user training can be scheduled at
the same time as the PCs are deployed, so your business
is not impacted by the transition and your staff have the
added benefit of returning to use what they have just been
trained on.
- Implementation of new systems will have benefits for
the IT department and its resources, but the overall benefits
will only be fully realised if your staff are able to take
advantage of the technology upgrade. This is facilitated
through training. BSG's Training division can design
bespoke user training courses, or provide “floorwalkers”
to respond to queries and provide training at desk.
- Once installed and trained the client can then benefit
from the range of support options that BSG offers

BSG offer a comprehensive disposal service, through its Asset Disposal Service.
Training
This is critical to optimising the success of any refresh or roll out, whether it is end user orientation and training on the new system, or just training to ensure the IT department are able to get the best return on their investment. BSG's training department can offer bespoke training, tailored to the client needs and delivered in the most appropriate way.
